June 21, 2017, Moscow – On the sidelines of the IX International Forum ATOMEXPO 2017, the Private institution of Atomic Energy Power Corporation “Rusatom International Network” and the Groupe Seche Environment signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
The document was signed by Mr. Alexander Merten, President of Private institution RAIN, from the Russian side, and Mr. Joel Seche, CEO at Seche Environnement, from the French side
The purpose of this Memorandum of Understanding is the development of cooperation between the companies in the field of nuclear energy in regard to the management of radioactive waste (RAW) and spent nuclear fuel (SNF).
The Parties have expressed their interest to cooperate in the field of handling liquid and solid radioactive waste from operating and decommissioned nuclear facilities, which may include sorting, characterization, segmentation, conditioning and safe storage.
The document also expresses interest in joint participation in the creation of an infrastructure for safe storage of SNF from energy and research reactors, decommissioning of nuclear and radiation hazardous facilities (NRHF), as well as projects for water treatment and water purification.
The agreements reached form the basis for expanding the competence of the enterprises of ROSATOM State Corporation in the field of RAW and SNF management.
Rusatom International Network is a non-profit organization in the control loop ROSATOM State Corporation, which addresses the issues of forming, developing and managing a network of foreign regional centers. The company’s structure comprises 11 regional centers. The main tasks of the company and regional centers include searching for new opportunities for expanding business, promotion of products and services of the Russian nuclear industry enterprises on the world market, and image formation. One of the main functions of the company is the coordination of foreign economic activities of enterprises in the control loop of ROSATOM State Corporation.
Groupe Seche Environnement is a company specializing in processes and services for managing both hazardous and non-hazardous materials in France and abroad with more than thirty years of experience.
ATOMEXPO-2017 IX International Forum in Moscow has gathered 6.5 thousand participants from 65 countries, including Russia and four countries that take part in the Forum for the first time: Colombia, Sudan, Sri-Lanka and Ethiopia. The Forum is attended by 33 official governmental delegations from different countries of the world, as well as 100 companies from the global nuclear industry and associated industries. The business programme of the Forum envisages 13 round tables on relevant topics. The main theme of the Forum this year is Nuclear Technologies: Safety, Environment, Sustainability.
